Base Course


This is a course primarily for the traditionally accepted health professionals in the multidisciplinary scoliosis working team; Physiotherapists, Orthopaedic Specialists, Orthotists and Psychologists. The course may be attended however by any health professional interested in scoliosis, such as Pilates Instructors, Osteopaths, Exercise Physiologists, Chiropractors and Myotherapists.

Course Outline:

  • Normal Spine and Trunk in 3D: Anatomy, Geometry, Biomechanics (Stabilization Mechanisms)
  • Sagittal Disorders (Scheuermann and others)
  • Scoliosis: General knowledge and 3D Nature
  • Early Onset Scoliosis (EOS), Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS), Adult Degenerative Scoliosis (AdS)
  • Natural History of Idiopathic Scoliosis
  • Patient Evaluation
  • Non-Surgical Treatment, Physiotherapeutic Scoliosis Specific Exercise (PSSE) and Bracing. Schools and Evidence
  • Introduction to Brace Treatment: Rigo-Chêneau Concept
  • Introduction to Surgical Treatment
  • Non-Idiopathic Scoliosis
  • Introduction to BSPTS Concept (General Principles and Clinical types, including the classical Schema of Blocks)
  • Guidelines to prepare for L1 Course
